15 Worst Performances In 2016 Films (So Far)

1. Dakota Johnson - How To Be Single

Worst Performances 2016
Warner Bros.

Dakota Johnson should be given credit for taking on a role in Whitey Bulger crime thriller Black Mass in the same year that she shot to stardom as Anastasia Steele in the big screen adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey, though she doesn't do herself any favours with a borderline loathsome performance in this shallow and sickly rom-com.

She stars as Alice, a young woman who decides that she wants to take a break from her long-term boyfriend (cue the painfully obvious Ross from Friends gags) so that she can experience what it is like to be single and find herself in the process. Whatever the intended message of the film was, it certainly wasn't that woman don't need a man and can be happy on their own, as being single in this instance means running through dates (and genre cliches) like there is no tomorrow.

This is a film that takes place in a make-believe version of New York where snow never turns to slush and first-world worries are all that matter. Johnson spends almost the entirety of the movie trying to make Alice likeable, though her selfish motives coupled with the all-knowing smile she has plastered across her face throughout make her nothing but irritating and wholly unconvincing.
