15 Worst Performances In 2016 Films (So Far)
2. Adam Sandler - The Do-Over
We are only two films in to Adam Sandler's four-film deal with Netflix, yet it seems hard to remember a time when you could use the service without having one of his movies shoved down your throat. The arrangement seems to suit Sandler and his brand of toilet humour, and when the deal was announced he gave Netflix users a taste of what was to come:
“When these fine people came to me with an offer to make four movies for them, I immediately said yes for one reason and one reason only: Netflix rhymes with ‘wet chicks.’"
As awful as it is, this gag would have been one of the better ones had he saved it for The Do-Over, the follow up to last year's terrible western comedy The Ridiculous Six. The film follows Charlie (David Spade - equally awful) and Max (Sandler) after they fake their deaths only to discover that the dead men whose identities they have adopted were entangled in various criminal activities.
Sandler has been getting accused of just not caring for a long time now, with those who previously defended him on the grounds of his early work having long since given up the ghost. This is partly because he admits to choosing his projects with a holiday destination in mind, but mainly because it couldn't be more obviously true that he doesn't care when you begrudgingly watch one of his movies, and The Do-Over is no exception.
