Macbeth gave Michael Fassbender another chance to remind everyone that hes quite brilliant at the whole acting thing like he even needed to. The 2015 version re-imagined Macbeth as a muddy, dreamlike war movie where everyone is having a miserable time; it opens on a slow motion battle scene and only gets more nightmarish from there. The final battle is an emotional one, with the mad King Macbeth facing off against former friend Macduff who is understandably miffed about Macbeth murdering his entire family. The two men fight in a field against a backdrop of fire, giving the scene a hellish tone. There's not much honour on display here; they hack and slash at each other, hoping that each strike will land a killing blow. Ultimately its the emotion that makes this fight a good one; Macbeth has to face up to the monster hes become, and a man whos lost his family has to bring down a former friend.
