20 Indiana Jones Easter Eggs You Never Noticed

12. The Many Faces Of Pat Roach

Other than Harrison Ford, there's only one actor to appear in each of the series' first three films, and that's actor and stuntman Pat Roach, who plays four roles throughout the three movies. He sadly wasn't available for Crystal Skull because he died of throat cancer in 2004. In Raiders, he first played the giant Sherpa who fights with Indy and is left to die inside the burning remains of Marion's bar The Raven. Much more memorably, he also re-appears later as the German mechanic who Indy fights before the guy gets fed into the propeller of a rotating Nazi plane in one of the series' most grotesque moments. In Temple, he played the chief guard who fights Indy in the mine and eventually meets a grim end when his sash gets caught in the rock crusher and he is pulled into the machine. As for Last Crusade, Roach filmed a more extensive scene than never made it into the final cut as a Gestapo agent searching for Jones on the zeppelin before being knocked out by him. Instead, the only footage of Roach in the final cut is a shot of him and Vogel heading towards the zeppelin (pictured right). Even for those who aren't aware of the various roles he played, Roach brought an energy and excitement to each of his scenes, and was friendly enough with Harrison Ford that the actor called his widow before Roach's funeral to offer his condolences.
