20 Indiana Jones Easter Eggs You Never Noticed

13. Cardboard Seagulls Are Cardboard - Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade

A memorable moment from The Last Crusade occurs when Henry Sr. (Sean Connery) uses an umbrella to scare a flock of seagulls away, forcing them into the sky where they cause an enemy plane to crash, exploding into a fireball. Watch the scene even halfway-closely, however, and it's clear that Spielberg didn't care all that much about disguising how fake the seagulls look. The scene cuts between some blatant cardboard cutouts of stationery seagulls and a combination of doves and pigeons for the movement shots. As Henry Sr. runs towards the gulls, it's especially obvious, as not a single seagull can be seen moving, and it's blatant enough that it either feels like a) Spielberg and his effects team were putting zero effort in or b) he kept it that way because it looked funny.
