Everyones a critic these days, with social media and YouTube offering normal people the chance to air their views about the latest releases. This doesnt always result in the sophisticated analysis, but its made reviewing a more democratic process. Some professional critics dont like this though; they find it cheapens their work if any idiot can just rant away about a film without doing their research. A really solid review is supposed to dig into the movies themes, cover the technical aspects and ideally - include the reviewers own personal voice too. People can still enjoy the reviews of a critic they respect even if they completely disagree about the movie itself; because it can be interesting to examine another point of view. When a critic injects a personal or contrarian view about something though, this can really rattle a few cages. If they hate a movie everybody loves or make some kind of controversial statement about it then the knives can come out, and the critics in question can find themselves in the middle of a backlash.
