9 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Comic Book Movies
8. Emo Peter Parker Is Supposed To Be Cringe-Worthy - Spider-Man 3
There are many, many things wrong with Spider-Man 3, with one common complaint being that Peter Parker's goofy dancing, once he's under the influence of the symbiote, is more embarrassing and cringe-worthy than cool (as it's apparently meant to be).
Why It's Wrong: This is a clear misinterpretation of the symbiote's effect on Parker and Sam Raimi's overall intent with these silly dance sequences. Peter's behaviour is merely him doing what he thinks looks cool, wildly exaggerated by the symbiote's power, rather than something that's meant to objectively appear bada** to the audience.
Just look at most of the other people in these scenes: they stare at Peter like he's a weirdo and a goof, because that's exactly what he is, and the symbiote can't change that.
Now, criticise the sequence all you like for being ridiculous and corny, but to insist that any of this wasn't by design on the part of Sam Raimi, a B-movie master no less, is just insane.
It's fun to rag on the scene, but come on, at least be honest about why you're ragging on it.
