9 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About Comic Book Movies
9. Superman Killing Zod Isn't "Out Of Character" - Man Of Steel
Of the many things fans complained about in Man of Steel, they were most vocally opposed to Superman's third-act decision to snap General Zod's neck, deeming it "out of character" for the Kryptonian superhero, who is typically a beacon of hope and avoids killing at all costs.
Why It's Wrong: It's important to realise that Zack Snyder deliberately put Superman in a no-win situation in order to challenge the rather dull black-and-white morality of classic comic books, because no-kill rules just don't make much sense in a universe reflecting the "real world".
Supes could either kill Zod or let several innocent humans die, so he did the only sensible thing in a terrible situation, and instead of fans whining about what Superman does or doesn't do, they must consider what he should or shouldn't do.
Sure, Superman shouldn't generally kill people, but when pressed to act, he made the sanest choice. Because Snyder dared to challenge the stiffly simplistic morality of the comics, fans got uncomfortable, but rather than thoughtfully consider their discomfort and look inward, they needlessly raked Snyder over the coals.
When it comes to movie adaptations of comics, taking a strictly absolute view of superheroes is always going to leave you upset.
