9. James Franco Is Infected At The Start Of The Movie

The Theory: After the Last Supper prologue showed James Franco's Captain Branson going to bed because he was "burning up", it turns out that he has somehow become infected with an alien embryo prior to the start of the journey to the Engineers' homeworld.

The Truth: Surprisingly, Franco actually has more screen time in the prologue than he does in the final movie, his cryo-pod catching fire at the very beginning and burning him to death while he sleeps.

He isn't infected in any way, though, and his implied illness was nothing more than a red herring, though the "burning up" foreshadowing is pretty hilarious in retrospect.
