But where's Oracle?!

Margot Robbie's planned Birds of Prey spin-off was already shaping up to be one of the DCEU's most exciting projects when it was first announced, but now, with new details having just been revealed by TheWrap, it sounds even better.

According to the report, the Cathy Yan-directed film will differ somewhat from the comic, with this particular Birds of Prey referring to a group of heroes and villains, as opposed to the all-hero team that was led by former Batgirl Barbara Gordon in the comics.

Disappointingly, Barbara - neither as Batgirl nor as Oracle - isn't mentioned in the same report. Instead, the list of confirmed superheroes are Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya (potentially as The Question), and Cassandra Cain. Cain has been both Batgirl and Black-Bat in the comics, so it's unclear as to what identity she'll take on once the film starts shooting.

It's an impressive roster despite Babs' absence, but one of the more exciting details disclosed pertains to the feature's ostensible antagonist. TheWrap claim that they'll be a "Batman comics villain who has never before appeared on the big screen." This would seemingly rubbish earlier rumours that Penguin - once brought to life by Danny DeVito in Batman Returns - would be the villain of the piece, although those reports did also claim that Warner Bros. were weighing up featuring him either in this particular Harley spin-off, or in Matt Reeves' long-gestating Batman reboot.

One can only guess as to who this character will be, but with countless Batman villains to choose from, now would be a good time to start speculating.
