Every Billion Dollar Comic Book Movie Ranked Worst To Best

The Dark Knight Rises Prison

Box Office: $1,084,939,099

Anybody who watched The Dark Knight Rises in a vacuum would probably have been blown away by it. It was a great action movie (if not really a comic book movie in anything bar tentative ties to the source) with some exceptional set-pieces. It was only disappointing in proximity of what came before it.

Christopher Nolan had outreached even himself with The Dark Knight and created something so zeitgeist-defining that following it up was always going to be difficult. And that film is why The Dark Knight Rises is criticised in certain circles for its story and its ending, but it's an impossible benchmark.

It's still a great achievement in film-making and a satisfying end to Christian Bale's arc as Bruce Wayne. Plus, Tom Hardy's Bane is brilliant, so there.
