King Kong Vs. Godzilla: 10 Reasons You Should Be Excited

3. Rivals Will Become Allies

Honestly, it would be enough to just have a new film where Godzilla and King Kong fight it out. However, in the modern film industry, multi-film arcs are now the standard for which blockbuster filmmaking is judged. And having Godzilla and Kong fight for a film is simply not enough. Make no mistake, WB and Legendary are looking to make this a franchise, and you can€™t do that if Kong and Godzilla remain enemies. According to industry insiders, head of Legendary Thomas Tull wants Kong and Godzilla to actually team up once they€™re done beating on each other. It should be obvious why this development is so appealing. It takes the concept beyond its initial premise and runs with it. Both Godzilla and Kong are more than just monsters; they are characters. Having them step beyond their initial hatred for one another and eventually reconcile and work together is a great way to develop their characters and the story at large. And of course it means more monsters beyond Godzilla and Kong, which is always a good thing. Frankly, having these old two rivals unite is a wonderful development because it differentiates this new version from the original in a way that both honors it and moves beyond it. It is a development that fits right in line with the giant monster movies of old while being quite original in its own right. After all, when was the last time you saw a major blockbuster where King Kong and Godzilla became friends?
