Ranking Every DC Movie Villain From Worst To Best

17. The Riddler - Frank Gorsin (Batman '66)

DC Villains Updated
Warner Bros.

Quite apart from the more modern image of The Riddler as a grand manipulator with a superiority complex, Batman 1966's version is more of a trivial annoyance to Batman. He's more like the prancing Jim Carrey side of the character, armed with quite the greatest laugh in Batman screen history thanks to Frank Gorsin.

Gorsin's Riddler is an agent of chaos, who prefers to tease the Bat (who improbably solves even the most complex of riddles either entirely by accident or by using some serious savant thinking that nobody else would be capable of in their wildest dreams). He's undoubtedly capable of besting Batman in intellectual terms, but he has a tiny, precisely important part of his brain tuned to the wrong frequency, which manifests here as a manic, almost child-like silliness.

It's hard to really appreciate him in serious terms thanks to Batman 1966's cartoonishness, but the performance remains great for the context, and Gorsin deserves credit for not treating it all with disdain.
