Star Wars: 6 Ways Hayden Christensen Could Appear In Episode VIII

2. A Flashback To The Prequels

Here's a fairly obvious, but still fun, fact; there has never been a flashback in a Star Wars movie. There's a subtle audio callback to the Tusken Raiders in Revenge Of The Sith, but that's it - the whole thing is presented pretty naturally. But do the new movies necessarily have to be restricted stylistically to what's come before? A flashback would certainly be the easiest way to work Hayden Christensen into the Sequel Trilogy, and could actually add something to the wider story given the obsession with his old lightsaber, but it also offers a tantalising opportunity. Both J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson are long-standing Star Wars fans and, while they now may not be able to admit it, were probably a little scorned by the prequels. So what better way to fix that than by going back and adding in their own improved scenes? There's more than just desperation to downplay Christensen's role behind this theory though. Rumours of flashbacks in The Force Awakens have been doing the rounds for a while now, and if they did wind up happening in some form then it wouldn't be a stretch to suggest the trick would be repeated in Episode VIII as well.
