With only 12 characters available, there are most certainly larger Mortal Kombat rosters than the one found in Mortal Kombat 2. Most of them even contain every character found here. The thing about Mortal Kombat 2, though, is that there is no dead weight to be found on the selection screen. Every fighter on offer has something significant to contribute to the game and offers the player a unique way to battle. They do a tremendous job of improving over the one-note cast of the first game and never threaten to ruin the fun by being out of balance - such as Kabal's presence in Mortal Kombat 3. Even the three color-swap ninjas have a unique style of play and a compelling role in the game's mythology. If there were such a thing as the fighting character hall of fame, you could easily make the case for everyone on this game's roster making the cut.
