15 Hotly-Anticipated Nintendo Switch Games Coming In 2017

15. Fire Emblem Warriors

Attempting to get in on that Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors hype (seriously, those franchises are huge in eastern territories), Nintendo are making a Fire Emblem that's as far away from turn-based combat as possible. Instead, taking all manner of oversized weapons to thousands of foot soldiers at once is the order of the day, yet at time of writing all we've seen is a tantalising trailer as part of an initial gameplay presentation.

As a franchise, Fire Emblem has long been a glorious mix of Saturday morning anime and stat-watching tactical RPG tropes. In its more traditional mould, you'd need to place soldiers in specific spots on the battlefield, take note of which coloured classes (red, blue, green) work best against one another, and - where possible - kite enemies into specific places where you could spring a trap or two, rather than wade in blades blazing.

It'll be very interesting to see if Warriors can make a successful break away from the traditions of Fire Emblem, as the appeals of turn-based tactical combat and real-time hack n' slashing are like night and day. The last time anything similar was attempted was The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a naff third-person shooter that felt as much like XCOM as Theresa May does a worthy politician.

Also note: There is a 'proper' turn-based Fire Emblem being developed exclusively for the Switch, though it's without an official title for now, and remains penciled in for 2018.
