7 Beloved Video Game Franchises That Are Stuck In A Rut

7. Rollercoaster Tycoon

The Tycoon series is good innocent fun, a step away from the macho, mum-cussing world of Call of Duty or Halo. It's colourful and bold and addictive, all in a world where you have the freedom to build gravity-defying roller coasters and log flumes. It was all good to start off with but the series has hit a roadblock in recent years and fans are not happy. It started in 2012 when Rollercoaster Tycoon came to the iPad, iPhone and Android as part of the trend of taking cool PC games and dumping them onto mobile. It could've been fun at your fingertips, but instead what came was plagued with micro-transactions and wait timers, more like Candy Crush and Clash of Clans. The game was a disaster and Eurogamer went so far as to label it something that's "steadily deteriorating for your soul" - ouch. It's next shot at getting back into people's good books is Rollercoaster Tycoon World, but that hasn't exactly got off to the best start either. Fans were fuming when a recent trailer debuted with less than impressive graphics and the developer had to make a gruelling apology, explaining the game is still in pre-alpha and reassuring fans they will keep the "charm" of the series. Hopefully it will mean a return to form and we can happily go back to creating the most ridiculous theme parks possible.
