8 Awesome Resident Evil Games That Almost Happened

A version of Resi 5 that was a solo adventure with no co-op? Yes please.

Resident Evil (aka Biohazard) is going to celebrate its twentieth anniversary in 2016, and the series has come a long way since its humble origins. It started out as a scrappy little PS1 game that practically invented the Survival Horror genre, before transforming itself into a third person shooter, a Milla Jovovich-lead movie franchise and just about everything in-between from novels to energy drinks. There€™s even a Resident Evil-themed restaurant in Japan (and they simply MUST serve Jill Sandwiches). This success isn€™t to say the franchise has always had a smooth ride; there have been a fair amount of shoddy spin-offs (any Resident Evil: Survivor fans out there?), the series has sometimes struggled to keep up with the times, with even the most successful entries having a rough time getting through development. In fact, a lot of cool things have been left on the cutting room floor over the years, including unique enemy creatures, abandoned subplots and even nearly complete games. So powerful is the lure of these abandoned stories that entire fanbases and websites have sprung up around them, and here I'll be taking a look at some of the most tantalising Resident Evil games that never reached shelves.
