8 Awesome Resident Evil Games That Almost Happened
8. Resident Evil 4 (Devil May Cry Version)
Resident Evil 4 went through the most changes during development, with no less than four versions existing at various stages. In one of its earliest forms, the game would have been a radical departure from the traditional fixed camera angle style of the series, and featured a new protagonist named Tony Redgrave. During the course of the story Tony was revealed to be the son of Umbrella founder Oswell Spencer, and he was all powerful thanks to a G-Virus infection. This would have allowed for more dynamic action, but as the game was being developed producer Shinji Mikami felt it strayed too far from the established tone of the series, and suggested turning it into another series: Devil May Cry. The story was rewritten and the lead renamed Dante (Tonys name can still be seen on the slides of his handguns), but the fast paced action is, more or less, what the Resident Evil 4 version would have looked like. While it may have been a huge departure for the series, it might have been an experiment worth taking.
