God Of War: 9 New Things We Can't Wait To Do
6. Use The War Axe Like Thor's Hammer
For the first time in the series' history, the upcoming God of War won't see Kratos brandishing his iconic dual chained blades (at least not for the majority of the game, anyway). Instead, he's using what the developers have called the Leviathan Axe, a mystical weapon that's far more personal - and far rougher - than what players are used to.
In keeping with the Norse theme, the axe pretty much works like Thor's hammer does in the MCU, with Kratos being able to toss it at enemies and call it back to him at will.
Consequently, this should facilitate a more improvisational approach to combat, as you throw the blade to hit an enemy at range, decimate the monsters close to you with your bare fists and then call it back, allowing it to whack anyone it meets along the way.
Early trailers and impressions seem to indicate that the Leviathan Axe is more than a worthy substitute for the series' long-standing weapons, and adds a versatility to combat - as well as a heaviness - that should be so satisfying to see in motion.
