1. It May Release Alongside The New Mortal Kombat Movie
Perhaps the biggest mystery surrounding Mortal Kombat XI right now, is the release date. As mentioned in the beginning, normally NetherRealm would have already announced the game by now. And, going by recent years, the game would be set for release next Spring/Summer.
It's unlikely there's any cause for concern, NetherRealm runs like a well-oiled machine. No, there's probably a far more likely explanation right in front of us.
For several years now, a new Mortal Kombat movie has been spinning its wheels in Hollywood. You can read all about its rumoured plot and production hell right here, but suffice to say it sounds like it actually might be coming to fruition, with horror veteran James Wan attached to produce.
If such a movie is indeed in the pipeline, NetherRealm may be holding off on announcing the next game, to synergize the two announcements. If the movie was in active development right now, it stands to reason that it could release next year, and what better time to release the game that just before the franchise reboot?
