Spider-Man PS4: 10 Characters Who Could Be The Perfect Villain

Peter Parker's rogues gallery isn't lacking a game-worthy villain or two.

Despite having an exciting power set that you'd think would make him the perfect candidate for a stream of awesome video games, Spider-Man's gaming history is pretty poor. There have been myriad attempts at bringing the Web Slinger to our various devices, but there's a depressingly low number of entries that are actually worth playing.

Next year, Insomniac Games will add their own entry to the growing list of Spidey games when they release their new, original title for PlayStation 4. A few sneak peaks at the game have shown some promising signs, with beautifully realised New York streets and an intriguing new suit proving to be memorable highlights early in the pre-release material.

Aside from this, however, there's very little else we actually know about the game. A few eagle-eyed commentators have been able to make assumptions based on hidden details in the first trailer, but for now that's virtually all fans have to go on.

So, with everything so mysteriously unsure, it's time to think about what could make this game worthwhile. Since Spider-Man's list of nemeses is one of the longest and most varied in comic history, we know that there's plenty of inspiration out there for a great leading villain.

It's time to take a look through ten villains who could be perfect for Spider-Man's next gaming adventure, but be warned; spoilers for some recent comic events will follow!

10. Spot

Spider Man Spot
Marvel Comics

Before he was a portal-covered weirdo, Spot was a brilliant research scientist who was working under the employ of a certain Wilson Fisk. After being sent to the Spotted Dimension thanks to some faulty machinery, Jonathan Ohnn returned covered in inter-dimensional portals that he could deploy wherever he saw fit.

This particular power would make for some exciting and unpredictable boss battles and challenges. Forcing Spidey to battle Spot on uneven grounds would force players to really test their reactions, while portal challenges could make use of Spider-Man's acrobatic prowess as he works to escape collapsing dimensions that attempt to trap him.

Given his links to Fisk and the gritty edge that such a criminal underbelly would bring to the game, this would definitely be a coup for Marvel as well. The success of Netflix series' featuring the likes of Daredevil and Jessica Jones have proved that there's still an appetite for a darker hero story these days.

Christopher Nolan's Batman revolution awakened a beast that is yet to be fully satiated, and the likes of Spot would allow Insomniac to tap into that, whilst still retaining a humorous edge.
