Staged at Moscows Tushino Airfield, the grand stage allowed the band to put on a blistering, utterly memorably show, opening with Enter Sandman and crashing right through to Battery for a braying, politically charged crowd. The footnote of the concert, which came only days after a failed military coup, will forever be the heavy-handed security of the soldiers brought in as support, and of more than 50 deaths, but it deserves to be remembered for a phenomenal Metallica showing.
