Liverpool look set to begin transfer negotiations with Bologna for Uruguayan attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez.

Italian sources confirmed last night that the two clubs and the players agent are due to meet in the next 48 hours to discuss the possibility of the transfer.

Speaking on talkSPORT radio last night, reliable Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri revealed that Liverpool had finally made a decisive move to try and land the highly rated 21 year old this week.

Liverpool have tracked Ramirez for some time, but with the breakdown of the move for Gylfi Sigurdsson, manager Brendan Rodgers has stepped up his interest in the goal-getting, goal-creating midfielder.

It is thought that that Ramirez is very keen to sign for Liverpool, although Juventus and Manchester City have also expressed an interest in signing him. Bologna are said to be interested in letting Ramirez go for roughly £16 million, which would represent an ambitious statement by the Merseyside club should they succeed in bringing him to Anfield.

The player is currently training with the Uruguayan Olympic squad, along with current Liverpool stars Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates, who could be instrumental in the players decision.

In a surprising turn of events, it is thought that Italian Alberto Aquilani could be heading the opposite way.

The midfielder, who has been on loan at AC Milan, has not shown up on the current Liverpool squad list, and did not appear in any of the photographs of Liverpool’s pre-season training yesterday.

Aquilani was bought by Rafael Benitez in 2009, but received limited playing time and has spent the last two seasons in Serie A on loan, at Juventus and Milan.
