The transfer window is a period in the season in which Premier League managers can bring in much needed reinforcements – a world class defender to plug a leaky defence, a midfield enforcer to drive the team forward, or a silky striker to bang in those much coveted goals.
But it’s also a period in which managers can get rid of some of the deadwood. The players who no longer serve a purpose, those that are deemed “surplus to requirements.”
Players like Andy Carroll, whom the Reds signed for £35 million from Newcastle and is now out on loan at West Ham.
While Rodgers has focused more on bringing in talent than getting rid of it this month, with the signing of Daniel Sturridge of Chelsea and Inter Milan’s Philippe Coutinho now well and truly in the bag, we believe that there are still some more Liverpool flops who need to be replaced before the transfer window slams shut today.
After all, if Liverpool are to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in three seasons, they’re going to need to have all guns blazing.
Here, we profile 5 players who Rodgers desperately needs to replace.

Were you even watching Liverpool lately??
I agree with the needed replacement for Coates and Carra, but Hendo is playing very well lately.
Downing has had a better season, but he’s still surplus to requirements and standarts of LFC and should move on if we get a decent bid. I don’t mind having him as a squad player though.
Coates has not had the games that he should have had and was not at his best against Oldham, so may-be we should have given him some loan time and see if more games improve him. Carra is not passed it but we need to replace him; he has not been at his best since injury last year, but he has the sort of big gob needed to control the defense when it is weak.
Hendo is playing well and so is Downing and we cannot spare either of them. Players need more than one season and you forget how young Hendo is. He is a great player and his confidence is better now. His goal against Arsenal was fantastic and as the previous person says: have you actually watched Liverpool lately. It is our defense that is poor, not our midfield or attack!
get rid of hendo, who are you a man u fan the guy is starting to find his feet, think you should take up Knitting mate you have no idea at all
“Midfielder Jordan Henderson has been used increasingly sparingly by manager Brendan Rodgers” – do you even watch football? He’s actually been our best player recently behind the obvious Suarez. This writer actually writes a decent article : http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/tacticsandanalysis/id/802?cc=5739
showing the way Hendo’s hard graft is changing opinions. Your opinion is dated.
Are you sure? It took him until November 25th to play anything close to a full game and he’s only completed the 90 minutes in the Premier League once.
How anyone can defend Downing is beyond me. He’s absolutely abysmal.
And that article you referred to isn’t necessarily a better written one, it is merely one that panders to your opinion.
Carragher has dominated the defense in the previous 3 games and put in a Man of the Match performance against Arsenal. He provides leadership when needed and the team gels better when he’s involved. Henderson is looking strong and is closing out attacks and playing key balls every game. Downing isn’t great by any means but think he is finding his feet at last. Coates is flop without doubt.
Muppet… Henderson is a young player who has come into a MASSIVE club it will take time for him to settle.
He has shown that he is finding his feet and getting better, taking responsibility and scoring the odd goal.
The media need to get off his back as he will slowly turn into a very decent player
