Liverpool vs Man Utd - 5 Key Battles

One of the biggest fixtures of the Premier League season is set, and with the history between the two there is no wonder why many fans of both clubs look forward to this match the most of all 19 pairings. Liverpool are at home for this one and come into the match-up off the back of two wins in their first two, whilst Manchester United won impressively away to Swansea and followed up with a 0-0 draw against title challengers Chelsea. Liverpool have been active in the transfer window with the signings of Kolo Toure, Aly Cissokho and Simon Mignolet amongst others. Manchester United have been the polar opposite to Rodgers' side, with the capture of Guillermo Valera remaining their lone signing of the summer. Though Moyes is poised to sign a further player or two, it will not be in time for Sunday's match-up. Liverpool are heavily linked with two defenders in Tiago Ilori and Mamadou Sakho. Joe Allen and Kolo Toure are doubts for the bout, and with Martin Skrtel only just recovering from injury it is unknown whether he will feature whilst fellow defender Aly Cissokho is out for a month. For United, Phil Jones could appear despite a back injury suffered against Chelsea. This article will look at five key battles in this eagerly awaited match-up between the two most successful English clubs. David Moyes has never won at Anfield, so it will be interesting to see whether he can break this habit.
