Man Utd 1-0 Arsenal: Player Ratings

Media Image Ltd Robin van Persie came back to haunt his former club as Manchester United climbed up to a fifth with a home win over Premier League leaders Arsenal. This significant victory for David Moyes helped the Red Devils on a day when fellow contenders Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City both suffered defeats. Moyes restored RVP to the XI after starting him on the bench in the midweek Champions League goalless draw at Real Sociedad. He nodded in a Wayne Rooney corner here to check the Gunners' momentum. Arsene Wenger could have seen his side open up a five point gap at the top of the table, but instead had the lead cut to two following Liverpool's victory over Fulham on Saturday. Visitors Arsenal were without Per Mertesacker and Tomas Rosicky, who had been struck down with illness on the eve of this massive game. Going into the international break the Premier League's top eight are now separated by just six points. There's a packed festive fixture programme to come when play resumes in a fortnight too. Like so many big matches this Old Trafford encounter was settled by the fine margin of a set piece. Who impressed us at WhatCulture?
