Newcastle Transfer News: Wayne Rooney In Talks Over Move?

The Mirror. They say that a story appeared on the SportsDirect News website, a well-known affiliate of Magpies owner Mike Ashley, claiming that Newcastle were preparing to launch a large-money bid for the 27-year-old forward. SportsDirect News claims that a source "close to negotiations" claims that;

€œNewcastle see Wayne as their ideal player. €œHe€™s a strong centre-forward, would relate to the fans and would be a massive boost to the club€™s brand name." €œLow-level conversations have already been held between Newcastle and Rooney€™s agent, though the two clubs haven€™t spoken directly yet.€
During the post-match celebration for Sir. Alex Ferguson's farewell home victory over Swansea City on Sunday, the retiring Scot confirmed that Rooney had asked for a transfer away from Old Trafford, but insisted that the club wanted to keep their No. 10. Champions League finalists Bayern Munich and Arsene Wenger's Arsenal had been linked with a move for wantaway Rooney, though it is thought the player will have sit down talks with new Red Devils boss David Moyes before he decides on his future. This is of course not the first time that Newcastle had tried an ambitious bid for Rooney. Back in 2004, The Magpies made an offer for the then promising 18-year-old Everton forward and a transfer valuation was agreed before the striker opted for a move to Old Trafford. Since the story on Newcastle's apparent interest in Rooney broke, the North East club have responded, calling the rumours "nonsense".
