Newcastle Transfers: 5 Deals Pardew Must Make To Avoid Relegation

5. Mathieu Debuchy

Debuchy At time of writing, the rumour mill is in overdrive suggesting that a fee has been agreed for the French international. It now seems almost confirmed that a bid of about £5.5 million has been accepted for the right back. Bringing Debuchy in would be a great start to Newcastle's January activity. After leaking eleven goals in the last two matches it is clear that defensive reinforcements are a must and Debuchy fits the bill. He is available relatively cheaply and is an international who has played in the Champions League. The deal is even more significant due to the contractual situation surrounding current right back Danny Simpson. Simpson's contract expires in the summer and no solution looks to be in sight so getting a replacement in is key. More importantly at present though, Debuchy could hopefully stop the leaking of goals and his pace and creativity on the right could even contribute going forward.
