Newcastle Transfers: 9 Forwards Pardew Must Consider In January

9. Luuk de Jong (Borussia Moenchengladbach)

The Evening Chronicle in Newcastle linked the Magpies with renewed interest in the Dutch Under-21 striker, who has been on the club's radar since he was at FC Twente. 2012 saw talks held between the striker's representatives and Newcastle, but he ultimately chose to move to Germany, and the move has turned into a disaster since. The Chronicle suggest Pardew's side asked about a loan move in the summer, but the Germans were resistant, though his recent lack of form could see him moved on this winter. In an interview with Bundesliga.com, Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl responded to the question of de Jong's availability with the revelation that they will look into any "interesting offers" and "consider alternatives," which could be enough for Newcastle to test the side's resolve with another loan offer, which would boost their own options with a long-held target.
