Newcastle Transfers: 9 Forwards Pardew Must Consider In January
8. Bafetimbi Gomis (Lyon)
Recent reports from the Metro have linked the French striker with a January move to Tottenham, as Tim Sherwood looks for cost effective new additions to his squad, but Newcastle were heavily linked with the 28 year old in the summer, and he remains the same player. Gomis would offer power and European experience to the Newcastle front-line that badly needs a physical presence to finally allow Shola Ameobi to either move away from his hometown club, or just further down the pecking order where some fans would be more comfortable with him being. According to the Metro, Gomis is available for around £5million after telling Lyon he wants to quit the club, and he is "all but certain" to move this winter, and he would offer the power and presence in the box that Newcastle's forward line needs to turn them from top-half challengers to genuine European qualification challengers. He's basically out to seed at Lyon at the minute, which is helpful neither to the player nor Lyon, if they're looking to make some money back on him, and if Newcastle manage to follow through with their long-standing interest, they will be adding a technically gifted striker to their ranks.
