With Newcastle apparently actively looking at striking options this winter thanks to their inability to bring another striking target in at the end of the summer window - and the complication of the African Nations duties of Papiss Cisse - talk is inevitably turning to who could be on the radar. Already this season we've seen links to Jermain Defoe on loan, Paul-Georges Ntep of Stade Rennais, Danny Ings, Andre-Pierre Gignac and Seydou Doumbia, the Ivorian talisman at CSKA Moscow, and with November on the way, it won'tbe long before every day sees fresh speculation. Whether Newcastle will be having all of those targets assessed remains to be seen - some will undoubtedly be under scrutiny already - but one player has already been ruled out, according to the Chronicle. Luc Castaignos of Twenet was one of the names thrown up when options were discussed, but according to unnamed "sources" from the banned newspaper, the club "feel hes probably too weak for the Premier League." After a mostly wasted move to Inter Milan (where he played only 6 games and scored once), the 22-year-old Dutchman has 33 goals in 75 games for Twente, and has been attracting labels as the "new Thierry Henry". In terms of not really working in Italy, that's spot on, but the club's apparent assessment that he isn't right for the Premier League seemingly means we won't get to see his Henry-like renaissance in black and white. Let's hope that proves to be the right decision.
