For a lot of Sunderland fans, it was probably a surprise to see Santiago Vergini almost pick up the Man Of The Match award for Sunderland in their battling display against Louis Van Gaal's new Manchester United team on Sunday. Based on some of his performances last season, few could possibly have thought that Vergini could be such a strong asset on the right hand side of John O'Shea and Wes Brown but he is certainly proving his doubters all wrong. In fact, Vergini, received an impressive 8.5 out of 10 rating in the Daily Mail to eclipse Lee Cattermole and it is fair to see why some sections of support and media gave this rating to the Argentinean defender. His performance in front of the Sky cameras was simply sublime and if Billy Jones had any fears of not being able to force his way into the right back position, he may now after seeing a classy showing from the latest arrival under Gus Poyet this transfer window. It is fair to admit that Vergini did not win over many Sunderland supporter when he played as a centre-half last season but he looks the part as a full back and he has every chance to win over the fanbase on Wearside this season.
