Sunderland: 5 Reasons Why Vergini Will Win You Over This Season

5. He Provides Balance On The Right

The debate will continue as to whether Phil Bardsley was good enough for Sunderland; he showed battling spirit in most games but his positioning was always very poor in important matches. He was very much a case of two sides. Vergini, 26, certainly offers more on the right hand side after a dazzling display against the likes of Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie and he will be hoping he can keep this spot on Saturday against QPR. The loanee from Estudiantes did not show his true ability when he was at the heart of defence and the difference in his performances, once moved out to the right, was like night and day. Poyet may have found out something he did not expect from his seventh signing this summer. One thing we know is that we finally look balanced and have depth in our full back department with van Aanholt having another good game on the left hand side and Vergini holding his own on the other side. With the transfer window still open for another week and Billy Jones itching to get some game time it certainly looks like a good time, finally, for Poyet and his defensive options.
