10 Badass Moments From TV Characters You Never Expected

9. Little Mo Stands Up To Her Abusive Husband€“ Eastenders

Soaps often have longer for storylines; Eastenders is on five days a week, so what's that, about 250 episodes a year? Bearing this in mind, the story of Little Mo and Trevor seemed to go on forever. Mo was a timid, trusting woman, married to a monster; Trevor regularly hit her and once burned her hand on an iron. When she finally stood up to him, it was a payoff to a story that had gone on for nearly two years; Trevor threatened to whip Mo with a belt, and she just wouldn't have it. She told him that she wasn't going to stand for the abuse much longer, as he screamed at her to do as he said. "I'll punch you," he threatened. "And I'll punch you right back," she replied, "I might not win but I'll be a fantastic runner up!" The storyline might never have won anything other than a soap award, but it helped launch the career of writer Tony Jordan, who went on to create Hustle and Life On Mars. It was a gripping conclusion to the story that ignited the interest of those who didn't actually watch Eastenders; this was a rare occurrence of a soap delivering a gripping conclusion to a storyline that could compete with more serious dramas.
