10 Best Moments From Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Year

Forget The Day of the Doctor, it was The Year of the Doctor!

Anniversary Doctors 23rd November is a special date in the Doctor's personal calendar because it marks the anniversary of his first televised adventure, 'An Unearthly Child'. On that fateful day back in 1963 (at 5.16pm on BBC One, to be precise!), the TARDIS materialised on the small screen for the first time as audiences were given their first glimpse into the weird and wonderful world of our now iconic hero. More than 800 episodes later, the series is still going as strong as ever, with an estimated global audience of over 70 million viewers. Not too shabby! Now in its 51st year, this also means it's been 365 days since the franchise's far-reaching festivities which were put in place to mark half a century of adventures in time and space. After months of anticipation and speculation, The Day of the Doctor finally dawned on Saturday 23rd November 2013, culminating in a feature-length special which was screened simultaneously on TV and in cinemas in over 90 countries. But the 50th anniversary celebrations were so much more than that, as Whovians from around the world united as one to 'Save the Day' and salute everybody's favourite Time Lord in spectacular style. Over the following pages relive the highlights of Doctor Who's momentous 50th anniversary celebrations as a heartfelt reminder of how the fandom came together to commemorate the Doctor's historic outing. Forget The Day of the Doctor, 2013 was well and truly The Year of the Doctor!
