10. Introducing John Hurt As The Doctor

Despite being the star of his own show for half a century, the Doctor proved that he still possesses the ability to surprise us in the Series 7 finale when he reluctantly introduced us to one of his previous incarnations. The big surprise? Until that moment, we'd had no idea this one had even existed! In the climactic closing moments of The Name of the Doctor, which first broadcast on Saturday 13th May 2013, Steven Moffat sent shockwaves through the Whovian stratosphere by unveiling a secret incarnation of the Doctor who had until that point been hidden away in the darkest corners of his time stream. If that wasn't enough to ignite a tidal wave of self combustion amongst the fans, this troubled Time Lord was played by the only man a guilt-ridden, lost incarnation of the Time Lord could be played by - veteran of the stage and screen, John Hurt.
