10 Doctor Who Guest Stars Who Came Back In Bigger Roles

Familiar faces, new roles.

As one of the most successful and celebrated franchises in history, Doctor Who is acclaimed for attracting a foray of famous faces who are more than willing to leave their mark on the ongoing escapades of TV's favourite Time Lord. The programme has become a British institution and It's the show's ever growing ensemble of glittering guest starts that makes it stand out as one of the most formidable forces on TV (well, that's one of the reasons anyway...). A show spanning over 51 years is bound to revisit some faces every now and then, though. In fact, Doctor Who has been reusing its guest stars since its inception in the 1960s and whether or not this is because they were too good to lose, they were cheaper than hiring someone else or just because the writers had simply forgotten they'd been in it before is largely open to viewer interpretation. On the following pages, though, you'll be introduced to 10 Doctor Who guest stars who returned in bigger roles than their original appearance. It's well known that the Classic Series had a pool of guest actors who pop up all over the place but these are examples of those who went above and beyond and returned to the Whoniverse in a much more substantial way. Some went from walk on parts to speaking roles while others went from cameo to companion. As you'll soon discover, there's even a couple who went from background action to being at the helm of the TARDIS itself... Doctor who?
