10 Things You Never Knew About The Doctor Who Specials

Tantalising trivia about the NuWho Specials.

David Tennant introduced a distinctly quirky, dramatic, and energized personality to the Doctor, attracting a cult of Whovian fanatics (many of whom are ladies - it's just a coincidence!) who remain adamant in their claims that the Tenth Doctor is the stuff of legends. With his suave attitude, untamed hairstyle, supercilious eyebrow, and very - *ahem* - apparent British accent, almost everyone felt a twinge of regret as the end of Series 4 approached, and the Doctor would walk away as a new man (quite literally). But this inevitable departure was evaded (again), and fans were awarded with over five additional hours of the Tenth Doctor allon-sying, flirting, eyebrow-raising, and crash-landing onto planets inhabited by strange bat-like CGI entities from hell. Then again, perhaps not all five hours were worth your attention. However, the stories became progressively better, and tension rose with each resounding knock, as fans desperately hoped they wouldn't reach the number four. This interlude of specials bridging the gap between Series 4 and 5 can almost be viewed as its own mini-series, delving into the Doctor's less focused adventures since specials (for the most part) are purely fun, whimsical and harmless to the general plots and themes. But for those who can't get enough of the Tenth Doctor era, here are 10 secrets and lesser known facts that still lie concealed behind these five colourful escapades. Allon-sy!

Anna is an aspiring writer who has an incurable obsession with Doctor Who. When she is not writing about Doctor Who, she's watching favorite episodes and contemplating what to write next. When she's writing about Doctor Who, she anticipates her reward: watching yet another Doctor Who episode. She also manages to read science fiction (especially Ray Bradbury), recite lines from Shakespeare's Macbeth, and make terrible puns in her free time (she likes to imagine she has great puntential, though)
