Doctor Who: 11 Things You Never Knew About Series 5 Of NuWho
The end was just the beginning.
WhoCulture is gearing up for next month's 10th anniversary of NuWho by looking back at each series of the revived show so far and reviewing moments, both on and off camera, that audiences might not have noticed. With our retrospectives for Series 1, Series 2, Series 3 and Series 4 done and dusted, it's time for Series 5 (or Series 31, for the purists) to step under the spotlight. Series 5 was a series that was as much a reboot of Doctor Who as 2005's Rose with a new Doctor, companion, showrunner, TARDIS and title sequence to boot. As such, it's a great starting point for people new to Doctor Who and it was also the year that audiences were introduced to fish fingers and custard, Fezes and Daleks serving tea, the latter of which took far too long to come to fruition! Meanwhile, the Silurians returned after a 26 ear absence as mysterious cracks appeared across time and space. The Weeping Angels made their grand comeback in an epic two part story, audiences cried at the tragedy of Van Gogh, were reintroduced to the ever mysterious River Song and gasped as the universe was destroyed and then promptly rebooted again. In short, the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond's first year was a memorable one and arguably one of the best since the show returned. But things could have turned out very differently indeed. From alternative villains to an alternative Doctor, Series 5 went through many changes throughout its journey from script to screen. With numerous references to classic Doctor Who to behind the scenes facts that shed new light on these stories, here are 11 things that you never knew about the Eleventh Doctor's first series. Are you ready? Geronimo!
