10 Times Doctor Who Became The Weirdest Drama On TV

Putting the "Whaa?" into "Who"...

The concept of a thousand year old man roaming time and space in a ship bigger on the inside is peculiar enough for anyone. Yet one of the great strengths of the nation's favourite sci-fi franchise has been the way it's taken this weirdness and made it a cosy fixture of family viewing across the globe. Daleks that look like they've been cobbled together from kitchen utensils... regenerating Time Lords... a robot dog who sounded like a geography teacher... rampaging Christmas trees... countless alien worlds and their rubbery citizens... it may get watchers scratching their heads at times, but Doctor Who can often be the most reassuring and familiar of programmes, as British as apple crumble. After all, this is the show that managed to make fish fingers and custard acceptable! However, despite the series often acting as comfort food for the eyes, that basic bizarrity still remains. And when you get a story that is flat out bonkers from start to finish, the odder aspects of Who really shine through. Here, ten eccentric examples are offered up for both your perusal and utter bafflement, illustrating how when it comes to being off the wall the Doctor is an absolute Master!
