Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Rose Tyler Is The Definitive NuWho Companion

From shop girl to Earth defender.

There was a time that the majority of Doctor Who fans wouldn't have heard a bad word be said about Rose Marion Tyler. When she originally departed at the end of Series 2, the shop girl turned Earth defender had a magnificent TARDIS tenure behind her and Billie Piper could rest assured in the knowledge that she had left her mark on the show's mythology as one of the most memorable and beloved companions of all time. So, where did it all go so wrong? Every rose has its thorns and while it wouldn't be completely true, or fair, to say that Rose is now universally detested, it's common knowledge within the Doctor Who community that she's definitely not as adored as she once was. Perhaps her multiple returns have something to do with it but over recent years she's become somewhat of a marmite figure within the Whoniverse. You either love her or hate her and there's seemingly no in between. Whether you love her or loathe her, Rose is guaranteed to go down in Doctor Who history but if that will be for all the right reasons remains to be seen. For some her overriding significance is even more important. As the first NuWho companion she was responsible for introducing the Doctor's weird and wonderful world to a new generation of fans and for that reason, and the others mentioned on this list, it's safe to assume that Rose Tyler will stand the test of time as the definitive companion of the revived series. Don't agree? Journey through the following pages and the chances are rose-tinted eyes will be opened to her magnificence. Your opinion of her might even change altogether. Only time will tell...
