Doctor Who: 10 Worst Things The Master Has Ever Done

Murder, destruction, and being an absolute nutcase? Triple check!

While the Daleks are unquestionably the most iconic villains in Doctor Who, it's the Master who fills the role of the Doctor's arch-enemy.

The two characters are moral opposites, and yet, they're pretty much family. One likes to destroy and the other likes to heal, even though they were raised alongside each other on Gallifrey. The Master is something of a dark mirror image of the Doctor, and the fascinating, back-and-forth dynamic between the runaway Time Lords has allowed the Master to endure throughout the show's many decades, becoming one of its most famous recurring villains.

Indeed, the fact that the Master never seems to die is almost a running gag at this point, with the character coming back over and over again - often without an answer for how he survived his latest "death" - to commit countless terrible acts.

From carrying out mass-murder to destroying entire planets, the Master's evil antics have turned him into one of the most potent threats in the entire Doctor Who universe. After all, you don't earn that "arch-enemy of the Doctor" label for no good reason.

10. Killing His Future Self

Missy's redemption arc in Series 10 brought a refreshing heroic twist to a character who is often just plain old evil, but her more positive attitude towards the universe didn't exactly lead her to a positive ending.

After stating her intent to stand with the Doctor, Missy is shot in the back by her previous incarnation - the John Simm incarnation - who is so angry at her newfound friendship with the Doctor that he decides to murder her out of spite, rather than let her carry on playing the good gal.

While this is a relatively minor incident compared to the rest of our entries, it's nonetheless one of the clearest demonstrations of how damn rotten the Master can be: he would rather die than perform a kind deed. He would, literally, rather kill himself than allow Missy to be good.

There's no widespread destruction or death here, but even so, it's hard to think of a better singular act that shows how despicable the Master truly is.
