Game Of Thrones: 8 Outrageous Fan Theories About Daenerys Targaryen

Mother of dragons, breaker of chains, going totally insane?

We don't yet know what fate ultimately awaits Daenerys Targaryen, but we do know that it has to be something big. Throughout the books and the show she has been established as one of the three main characters of the series, potentially a hugely important and powerful figure in Westeros, even though she hasn't made it yet.

Many see her as the one who will eventually sit on the Iron Throne, and certainly her aim is to become the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. As the last surviving Targaryen in the world (or so she thinks), she has a good claim to succeed her father, the Mad King Aerys II, and having three dragons cannot hurt.

While it's easy to picture Daenerys on the Throne at some point during the saga, there is a feeling that whoever is King or Queen isn't the important endgame it once seemed, with the impending threat of the White Walkers the far more pertinent threat. The Mother of Dragons is set to play a massive part in the fate and future of the known world, it's just not clear what that will be.

Naturally, because it's Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire, there are a number of fan theories online about the Breaker of Chains. They range from the likely to the ludicrous, and these are the ones you need to know about, although whether you'll believe them is another matter entirely.

8. She Is Azor Ahai / The Prince That Was Promised

Azor Ahai and The Prince That Was Promised are two fabled warriors who will come to save Westeros, although there is some debate as to whether they're actually the same person or not. Either way, Daenerys Targaryen is theorised to be at least one of them. There are a lot of similarities between the two, to the point they are used almost interchangably. Signs include being born amidst salt and smoke, a bleeding sky, and dragons waking from stone.

The original prophecy used the Valyrian word for dragons, which means that it could be a female, and dragons certainly have a strong link to Daenerys. She was born on Dragonstone, near the Narrow Sea (salt), reborn as the Mother of Dragons on Khal Drogo's funeral pyre (smoke) hatched three dragons from their eggs (dragons from stone), and a red comet appeared in the sky (bleeding sky).

Whether it's Azor Ahai, TPTWP, or both, there's plenty of evidence pointing to Daenerys being the legendary figure, although it's not actually clear whether or not they'll even appear in the first place, and there are a few other candidates as well.
