Glee: 5 Awesome Celebrity Guest Stars and 5 That Sucked

3. Britney Spears as "Britney Spears"

Arguably the biggest name to appear on Glee so far, Britney's role on the show was just plain weird, and in what I consider to be one of Glee's very worst (but one of the most watched) episodes. Britney appeared in the episode entitled Britney/Brittany and the entire episode was really just an excuse to have the Glee cast recreate Britney Spears music videos to help Glee attract a large audience and also to help Britney Spears's comeback to stardom. Fortunately for both Glee and Britney this episode did seem to help Glee's audience and Britney's stardom, but it didn't deserve to. Why Glee feels the need to help fallen actresses/musicians is beyond me... there is a reason Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears weren't all that popular at the time they appeared on this show... and that reason was simply because no one liked them anymore. Why bring unlikable celebrities onto a show... it surely will only have a negative effect on the show itself. Britney only briefly appeared in this episode in one of Brittany's dreams, but her acting was even below par in this scene were she appeared as herself to give encouraging words of support to the dumb cheerleader. The whole episode was apparently written for Britney and showed to her to make sure she was happy with the end result before allowing it to be aired. Apparently Ryan Murphy hated writing this way and his second Britney episode in season 4 was done without Britney herself constantly looking over his shoulder. Apparently she hated the more truthful season 4 episode (which wasn't simply an hour long Britney advertisement) but this episode was a hell of a lot better than the train wreck which was the first one.

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
