Glee: 5 Awesome Celebrity Guest Stars and 5 That Sucked

2. Josh Groban as "Josh Groban"

Who had the "genius" idea to introduce a celebrity cameo playing himself into a show as early on as its third episode? The first two episodes of Glee are some of the best the show has ever produced and sets up an almost realistic storyline with characters with relatable struggles who despite occasionally bursting out into song seem somehow real. All this great work that Glee had done, and the tone it had found and created in the first two episodes was undone by this travesty in the third episode. Not only is this episode my least favorite episode of Glee- it is the episode where Will starts an A Capella band by the way...shivers- but it could have easily derailed the show. Fortunately for Glee, the fourth episode of season 4 is widely considered to be one of Glee's very best (it is one of Ryan Murphy's favorites) and because of this many people forget that this somewhat terrible episode of television even existed. Also, is Josh Groban really all that popular? Does the teen market which this show tries to attract even really know who he is? And is he so well known that having him play a more unlikeable version of himself will really work on the audience. For all they know (well a lot of them anyway) he really is a jerk. Also, his explanation for being in this episode if ridiculous- he is supposed to have traveled all the way to Ohio to tell one of the schools fired teachers to stop sending him naked photos. Really? The worst thing is he returns in the final episode of the season and his appearance is almost as bad here. I have nothing against the guy personally and think he is a talented musician, but he is a terrible actor who was given an even worse part to play who should just stick to what he knows how to do.

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
