Gotham returned to screens this past week for its final season, and the first episode delivered in some pretty big ways, leaving viewers with plenty of questions to mull over in their heads while waiting for the next instalment.

The excitement for the final season is off the charts, largely because Batman himself will finally be making an appearance as Bruce’s transformation into the comic book icon will reach its conclusion.

If you’re chomping at the bit to see the Caped Crusader in action, then you don’t have to wait until the finale to catch a glimpse, as Gotham’s latest trailer features a first look at The Dark Knight.

Much of the trailer centers on Gotham’s downfall - an event that was initiated by crazed psychopath Jerome Valeska, but the closing moments of the short clip feature Batman running through the shadows. Check it out below:

He only appears for a split second, so we can’t be certain of anything, but it’s fair to assume from the silhouette that the outfit used for the Fox series’ iteration of the superhero will share similarities with those of Val Kilmer’s and Christian Bale’s.

Fans of the show were pretty convinced that a time-jump would take place at some point during the final season given that Bruce isn’t yet old enough to become the crime-fighting vigilante, and this clip is confirmation that such a jump will happen.

With Gotham currently isolated from the rest of civilisation, the crime-ridden city is very much in need of a hero, and - after five seasons - that hero is finally on the way. We’ll have to wait and see what it takes for Bruce to don the cape and cowl, but this first look has certainly increased anticipation for the arrival of The Dark Knight.
