References don't have to call back to comics or films - there's one in The Punisher that pays homage to a toy.

At one point, Frank despatches a villain and leaves his body resting on a pinball machine. The pose is almost identical to this Dimaond Select deluxe figure, presumably meaning there's a collector on the show-making team.
