It had to happen sometime and now that the Rebels are making camp on Yavin IV, there was no way they couldn’t feature. X-Wings are seen all over Yavin IV, in A New Hope and Rogue One, so not having them harboured there would seem a little odd.

Filoni stated that they would only bring in the X-Wings when they were needed and not shoe-horning them in purely for fan-service. In the episode of Rebels Recon for Zero Hour, in a segment focusing on Season 4, he teased that the X-Wings could appear in connection to Saw’s story about breaking with the Alliance.

Chances are they will play a pivotal part in the actual attack on Lothal, being the ultimate climatic moment for the whole series. Look closely and you can also see Hera and Chopper flying one of those X-Wings at the head of the formation. In what context, the trailer (annoyingly) didn’t make clear, but judging by Hera’s change in attire, this may be after she’s been promoted to General.

Rebels has given us the A-Wings, the B-Wings, the Y-Wings, and now they have finally delivered with the X-Wings and U-Wings.

Talk about a show that just keeps on giving.
