Supergirl Season 4: 6 Ups & 3 Downs From ‘Red Dawn’

Ups...

6. An Unexpected Development For Brainiac-5

Supergirl Brainiac 5 Brainy
The CW

While Brainiac-5 found himself going on one of those emotional journeys that everyone else also seemed to embark on during this episode, his was a little more, well, unnatural. Having decided to tell Nia Nal how he truly felt about her, he accompanied her on a mission so he could do just that. But his capture and torture by the anti-alien brigade awakened a different side to his personality.

Speaking about his deadly ancestors (one of which is the deadly Superman villain Brainiac), Brainy was inadvertently reprogrammed and thus, was able to free himself and continue on with his mission to defeat Lex. The only problem was that he now intended to do so as a stone-cold techno-organic computer, feeling little regard for whoever he put in the firing line to make that happen.

Considering Brainy was becoming more human throughout the season, this was an interesting development - one that proved to be a pleasant surprise, as it created another obstacle for the burgeoning romance between the 12th-level intellect and Nia and could possibly even lead to the introduction of Brainiac himself. Moreover, it could end up foreshadowing the returns of both Mon-El and Winn Schott (both of whom went to the future to fight the original Brainiac).
